Our goal with the WCSI Criminal Justice Liaison Program is to keep individuals with behavioral health needs from entering or moving further into the criminal justice system. The Criminal Justice Liaison program intercepts these individuals at the law enforcement and magisterial levels.
Criminal Justice Liaisons will work with:
- Local law enforcement agencies
- Criminal justice court systems
- Probation
- Behavioral health providers
A criminal justice liaison may be contacted when an individual involved in the criminal justice system is known to have or suspected of having behavioral health needs. Criminal Justice Liaisons are assigned to specific magisterial districts in Westmoreland County as well as the police departments serving those districts.
After initial assessment by the Criminal Justice Liaison, WCSI’s Intake Team can perform a detailed assessment to determine the appropriate level of case management for the individual. The individual will then be referred to treatment programs that are tailored to his/her specific needs.
