This is a full-time non-exempt position that is responsible for the supervision, provision and coordination of Certified Peer services to clients. Primary work hours will be Monday thru Friday, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm with a 1/2 hour lunch (37.5 hrs/week) unless otherwise agreed upon. Supervises a team of Certified Peer Specialist. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Include the following, (other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by management):


This position will be responsible for the direct supervision of Certified Peer Specialist positions, as well as development, implementation and oversight of Certified Peer Support Services at WCSI.   This position will be required to manage a small caseload, along with performing supervisor duties.   Duties will include assisting with the recruitment of Certified Peer Specialist (CSP) candidates, as well as train and mentor new CPS staff.  Provides on-going support to the Certified Peer Specialists and serves as a liaison with Community Partners:  arranges for speaking engagements, panel discussions, representation for groups/committees.  Partner with Program leadership and staff to integrate the Certified Peer Specialist staff in the department’s activities.  Promotes and educates teams and staff throughout the agency to CPS and recovery principals.  Review Certified Peers Assessments and ISPS for accuracy prior to submission to Mental Health Professional (BH Department Manager) for signature.  Collects weekly service documentation notes to ensure compliance and provide feedback.  Completes quality audits to ensure compliance is being met.   Other duties may be assigned as deemed necessary by management.

Adheres to WCSI, county, state, and federal regulations governing the Behavioral Health program. Attends specially designed training programs provided through WCSI, county, state, and federal agencies.

Certified Peer Supervisor:

Responsible for ensuring assigned staff achieve assigned service provision rate.  The position will be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of Certified Peer Support Services at WCSI.  Oversees scheduling, conducts weekly supervisions, attends peer supervisor and peer networking meetings on a quarterly basis, works with outside agency peer programs for contingency planning, assigns referrals, makes sure the peers obtain 30 hours of training (12 hours specifically focused on peer support or recovery practices or both).  Understands the recovery model and concepts, insuring implementation in practice.


Staff Supervision and Evaluation:
Provides ongoing supervision to program staff.  Responsible to complete staff performance evaluations and adheres to agency personnel policies and procedures. Monitors and manages staff scheduling and service provisions.   Assure the timely and accurate completion of agency service documentation notes, county authorizations, and all MCO requirements.

Professional Responsibilities:
Obtain necessary training in accordance with assigned staff development requirements. Able to be flexible, adjust work hours based upon program and consumer needs as assigned by immediate supervisor. Display a professional standard of effective teamwork in the provision of Certified Peer Services. Perform related duties as assigned.

Supervisor Responsibility

The Certified Peer Supervisor reports directly to the BH Child/Intake Program Manager and may take direction from the Behavioral Health Director and/or the Chief Executive Officer. Directly supervises the employees within the Certified Peer unit of the Behavioral Health Department.  Complete supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience:


  • High School Diploma or GED and four years of mental health experience OR a Bachelor’s Degree and two years of mental health experience; and

  • Within the last 3 years have maintained at least 12 months of successful full or part time paid or voluntary work experience or obtained at least 24 credit hours of post-secondary education; and

  • Certification as a Certified Peer, prior to hire date; and

  • Ability to identify yourself as a person who has received or is receiving services for a serious mental illness, as required by regulation for Certified Peer Specialist; and

  • Certification in Peer Specialist Supervisory Training within the first six (6) months after hire.

  • Supervisory experience preferred, but not required.


Language Skills:
The ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business information, periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental bulletins/regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Effectively present information, and respond to questions from agency, county, and state representatives.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Valid PA driver's license, Proof of valid Auto Insurance, ACT 33 (Child Abuse), ACT 34 (Criminal Record), FBI Clearance. There will be monthly screenings of PA Medicheck List, LEIE and EPLS. Certified Peer Specialist Certification.     

 Physical/Mental Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to operate a motor vehicle, sit, stand, walk, bend and lift objects of up to 10 pounds. The employee regularly uses a computer, phone, fax, copier and other essential office equipment to carry out daily work assignments.

Substantial problem solving in response to urgent/emergency situations, which may require immediate action.  Ability to apply principles of leadership and management in daily practice.

Work Environment:
The services of this job are community based. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to a combination of office and outside/travel conditions and regularly exposed to a moderate level of noise.
